Mapping for community

Those of us that are part of  MOSOMELT have collaborated on a Google Map as a continuation of our introduction to the  community. In this map each of us has plotted a space on the map that is important to us. We have used customised icons for our location and provided some descriptive information about the place. The result is a map that viewers can easily zoom in and out of and can help us gain a sense of where our peers are from.

This exercise has proved to be valuable for the group. It has enabled us to gain a better sense of our community and it has also provided an example of how mapping and collaboration can be used in an educational context. I have used Google maps many times in the past, however this has given me new ideas for how I can encourage my students to collaboratively develop these maps.
